ASIO Digidesign Driver not working in other programs

Hey all,
My Pro Tools LE installation is working fine, but I'm having trouble using the ASIO Digidesign Driver in Ableton Live 7.0.1 and Adobe Audition 2.0. Every time I select the driver in the Preferences/Hardware section of either program, the program freezes. I've tried everything - all of the relevant stuff in the "General Troubleshooting" thread; nuking my Pro Tools LE installation, deinstalling all the Digidesign drivers, rebooting, and reinstalling everything; nuking the Pro Tools LE installation, rebooting, and just installing the standalone drivers; deinstalling and reinstalling both Ableton and Audition, both in the same session (one reboot) and separately, rebooting each time; and on and on, everything! Any ideas?

I have an Mbox2 and Pro Tools LE 7.4cs2, and my computer specs are as follows:

2 GB of RAM
Attached: two external hard drives and a scanner, a mouse, and the Mbox2
Types of drives: 1 fixed hard disk that has been partitioned into 3 separate drives (2 NTFS and 1 FAT32) and the two external hard drives (both FAT32) previously mentioned.

Ok, I'm not seeing anything in there that would be an immediate culprit.

When you say you've done everything in the Win XP/ Pro Tools 6.x/7.x General Troubleshooting thread, is there possibly anything that you skipped or missed? You've disabled any network cards, your built in sound card, etc?

I just need to be sure we've covered the basics first...

Is Pro Tools (and the ASIO driver) installed on your OS disk partition? Or is it installed to that APPS disk partition?

Not having it on the system partition could be causing a problem.

I have the exact same problem and run an mbox on a pc setup similar to yours. I have been running it with Ableton Live 7, FL Studio, Windows Media Player etc... for ages now and then all of a sudden on day it stopped working and as you described freezes any program that tries to run the asio driver.
The only thing that i remember doing before it stopped working was updating Itunes. I ended up messing up my mbox hardware by using a firmware update program and had to take it in to get fixed. Since then the mbox is fixed, but i'm still unable to run the asio driver on any apps. I reinstalled Protools LE and tried to run that and that also freezes whilst still starting up. Any help would be much appreciated, i really don't want to have to format or uninstall things like itunes just yet, especially if that's not what caused the problem in the first place.

also worth noting that it also freezes when selecting the digidesign asio driver in audio apps without even having the mbox plugged in!
