For bouncing tracks as you describe, why not skip the bounce and route the track to a new AUDIO track and record in place. You will see quickly if the level is too hot or cold so you just adjust the original track's fader so you record the level you want. Same result, but easier control

Thanks Albee.

I can also create multiple wav files your way too at the same time. I only had used that method for doing multiple bounce tracks at the same time. But you're right, it also solves the level problem too.

And since I don't have to change the master, I don't have to remember where it was.

I like it.

Bouncing to a new track is the way to go... Don't forget to copy panning and sends to the new track as well.

As for gain staging, If you bounce the track to a new track while sitting at its real level in the mix (while the mix is not clipping), you should be fine. For example, you can bounce a processed tambourine track or a drum room track or a synth pad, you can easily get the impression that they're printed too low (say, peaking -20dBFS or even -30dBFS - that's way below the "yellow"). But the fact is that if it sounds right in the final mix than it is...

If you find out that you need to raise the fader of the new bounced track above 0dB after you bounce, then you either changed the levels of the other elements in the mix,or bounced a track that was not processed in relation to the whole mix in the first place.

I would always print those tracks into protools to ensure that the levels match.... and the sound quality is to your needs.... Plus it keeps the Bit depth in tact until im ready to bounce the WHOLE track... and even then I print within Protools then just export my Clip.... Nothing is fool proof but whatever work for you thats what works... :)

shtik and jbrown7282, thanks for that. Had to read your post a few times to get it. Got it.

But I think I am going to keep the panning neutral, and not print it. That way I can do the final panning at the mix stage. That's just what my instincts tell me to do.

All of this bouncing I am doing is pre-mix. So I think of panning as a mix thing.

The solution here is to bounce hard panned. Then, you can pan the audio as you wish when it comes to mixing

This is also a great way to make quick fixes without having to re-bounce an entire song. Need to boost that vocal in just one spot? Boost, punch in and out, add x-fades...done
