Default Recommend a good FX box?

In my attempt to increase CPU power, I'm looking into external FX units. How many of you guys are using external boxes? just wondering....

Also, which would you recommend, in the $500-$1000 range? I'm working on pop/R&B stuff, so some fresh, up-to-date FX would be cool, along with standard verbs 'n stuff. I'll probably use it mostly on vocals, and occasionally on guitars, or ?

Should I get a dedicated unit? or is a multi-FX unit cool? (this would be in addition to the Waves Gold pkg)

I know this unit is a bit more money than you want to spend, but you might consider the tc Electronics M3000. In addition to having two simultaneous very pro sounding STEREO effects, it can also serve as a superior 24 bit stereo A/D converter. It has built in d'essing and compression and will communicate with 001 through either adat optical, toslink, or S/PDIF.

Just a thought...

Roland SRV-3030. $300 for the analog i/o version, $400 for the sp/dif digital version.
