Either way... there's no real reason why an AMD/ATI card shouldn't work. Considering the fact that most Apple systems use AMD these days for graphics. I have an HD 6850 in my system, and it works great.

Nvidia has surround technology that is the equivalent to eyfinity, and is compatible with stereoscopic 3D without patches.. or so they say.

They both have some claims that are a little... extravagant, we'll say.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with AMD cards. NVidia cards have their thing, AMD cards have their thing. Right before AMD bought ATI, they were hurting bad, and their reputation was certainly in the toilet. But let's consider now that pretty well all Macs run dedicated AMD video these days. In fact, Apple dumped on NVidia a while back for lack of progress and shoddy releases. Not to mention the fact that NVidia had a whole range of logicboards recalled a few years ago(which resulted in a lawsuit from Apple), that were used in Macs, Dells, HPs, etc.

Both companies have their faults and their benefits. Considering it's only really the two companies responsible for 99% of dedicated video in the computer world these days... I can't imagine that NVidia is really all that superior.

But I will concede that if I were building from scratch, and had no clue about the exceptions to the rule... I would likely start with NVIDIA.

I will also add that if I had been using Pro Tools from PT7-9 or earlier, I would be using ATI Cards! Nvidia were a FREAKIN nightmare Pre PT 9!
