Default Can anybody recomend a good vocal doubler?

Just curious if anybody had any recomendations? I seen that Waves makes one. Is there any others that you guys are using that sound good? Are there any inexpensive one's? Demo's?

Also have any of you used the Harmony plug-in from Antares? Anygood?

digi makes the reel tape suite which has a adt (automatic double tracking) preset.
but, none of them sound like the real thing; i.e. actually singing it twice.
you can make your own if you have a harmonizing or pitch shifting plug, by shifting plus or minus 6-8 cents and then maybe a short delay of 15-30 ms.
to most people's ears it sounds more chorus-y than doubled but it's been a popular effect since bowie in the 80's
b.o.l.

e.p.s. the antares is silly sounding

Thanks for the tip! I'll give your technique a try.

Believe me..I know it allways sounds better when its sang twice. I'm just having a problem with one of my clients. She is very new to studio recording and having a very difficult time singing it correctly the second time. By take #35 I start to get a little frustrated. I just thought I'd try cheating and try the vocal doubler way out and see how it sounds.

usually, when there's problems double tracking it boils down to 2 issues:
phrasing and/or pitch.
a great way to deal with the phrasing drama these days is with elastic audio.

Don't know what your budget is, but I think Waves UltraPitch and Doubler are both pretty good. They're a little pricey if you're not getting them as part of one of the Waves bundles, about $200.

The best ever is the old roland sde3000 - hardwear I know but its the nearest to the real thing. I used extensively touring and in the studio. You can pick one up for around £250

Hmmm, interesting??? I'll have to look into that one. I've never heard the 3000 before...or maybe I have and just didn't realize it. Now you have my brain buzzing! I'm more of a "in the box" kind of guy but outboard gear is allways fun.

Another thing I've been thinking about.....Have any of you guys had luck with a 'vocal align' plug-in? That seems to be the problem my client is having. She seems to sing it in the same pitch, tone, etc. She just CANOT sing the part the same twice!

My experience is limited to the Digi-rack, McDSP, (and just recently) Massey plug-ins. Sorry for my ignorence.

As a previous poster stated, this is where Elastic Audio is very useful. Unless you don't have 7.4.

This may be more than you want to spend, and it is hardware, but it does work.

Cheers,
