Default Source Connect...

Last week I needed a client in Florida to hear the mixes I had done for him here in LA.
After sending him an AIFF for him to listen to, we started to tweak the mix.
It was frustrating because as I would do the tweaks, he really couldn't hear what I was doing.

In the middle of the tweaking he suggested we try Source Connect.
We forged ahead, with me sending files back and forth to finish up the mix, but over the weekend I installed Source Connect.

MY LIFE HAS CHANGED FOREVER!

Yesterday and today I was able to send him the mix, in REAL TIME out of my Pro Tools at near CD quality.
As he listened to the mixes, he could say stop and say, "can you put a delay on that word" or "on chorus, raise the distorted guitars 1.5 dB".
In the same amount of time of recording to disc, exporting and uploading an AIFF, we finished the tweaks on the entire song!

Source Connect blew me away, so I thought I would spread the good news.

I've heard about this for a while. Now that someone I trust is lovin' it I'll give it a shot.

We have been using SC for some time and let me tell you when we are located in Sydney, Australia it can really prove how good it is. For the WB Film "Happy Feet" we had to do sessions with Nashville, LA, NY with Top (and therfore scary) Talent and it was brilliant! The only caveat is a good net connection. We used SC Pro so that the director could Talk back to the actor or artist. Amazing technology.

I recently started using a program called NIceCast by Rogue Ameoba. It costs $40 and works great, too. It streams mp3 (you select the quality) live on the web, and is picked up on the listener's iTunes. In the Advanced menu, select open stream and then type in the server number, which I give them. It's brilliant, too, but doesn't have the talkback option. We use the phone.

Yeah, I got Source Connect Pro & Live for this exact purpose. In addition to talkback, with Pro I can control someone else's Pro Tools session from my end so they can have the video chasing along as well. It's pretty slick.

i wish it was integrated into PT from the start!....... maybe one day soon.

Sell time to your fans........ "Listen to our bands new album sessions happening in real time!"

Peter Moshay's idea for a new web based reality show...... (or horror show...... or comedy......etc!)

sounds frighteningly too much like the possible future!

Ya, I checked into Nicecast, but there were a couple of things that really blew me away about Sound Connect.

1. Nicecast broadcast at MP3 instead of MP4.
2. The two way talkback was definitely a plus with Sound Connect.
3. Most importantly, with my producing partner being in Florida, Sound Connect allows him to have direct session control of my Pro Tools over the net.

That was the most impressive thing for me. I can get a vocal sound with the artist in my studio in LA and he can control the session from Florida.

Unbelievable!

Tony, do you send a lot of material back and forth, too? I've found the combination of Source Connect for real time listening and DigiDelivery for speedy file transfer to be especially handy.
