KC,
You should be fine with either the 6811 or the Powerbook. You will be hitting the high end of the range for the Powerbook if you plan to do any mixing here though with plugins.

Thanks Allen for the quick response.

It the firewire on the M6811 the type that will allow me to hook up a firewire drive or 002r?

And do you think the 6811 is faster then the Dell with 2 hard drives in it?

Thanks again for all your help,

KC

Default Firewire HD w/ E-machines 6811 or Gateway 7426GX?

Is anyone using a 002R, and recording to an external firewire drive with either of these two machines (e-machines 6811 or Gateway 7426GX)? If so, what are your DaveC results and H/W buffer settings? Is there a way to add a second internal drive(maybe removable)to either of these laptops? I'm very close to purchasing one of these machines or building the Allenstein Machine and getting a large LCD HD TV w/ DVI i/o and great resolution.

Thanks for your help!
Eric

June 10, 2005 Revisions Consisted of the Following:

The following laptop computer has been tested and approved by Digidesign for use with Digi 002, Digi 002 Rack, Mbox, and FireWire drives:

Dell Inspiron 9300 (Intel® Pentium® M processor, 915PM chipset)

does this mean the 6000 could also be approved if the 915PM chipset is used?

I've ordered the allenstein desktop machine! As soon as I did, I thought, 'maybe I shoulda dropped the extra change on a laptop'.

Can some one give me a link to the acer 1524 on page 1? I cant find it anywhere in the US. Is it Europe only? I cant even find it on acer's site!

thanks,
Will

Hey guys -

Looking for a recommendation -

I have about $1000 to spend, and I'm looking to get a laptop that I can use for 2 situations:

First - I want to be able to run PT 6.9, most likely with an MBox, but occassionally a 002, with Reason, Sampletank (1&2), and a couple of other sample based programs. This will be my primary travel system.

Second (and maybe more often use...) - I want to use the machine as a sample server for my desktop which is currently running PT 6.9 with 002R. I'm planning on using V-Stack (or standalone) to run the East West Gold Orchestral collection, Reaktor, etc.

I was pretty set on the 6811, but was reading about the limitations to the RAM expansion and started getting worried that I might not be able to put enough in for my second usage.

What do you guys thinnk? Will the 6811 be OK? Would something else be better?

Thanks!

-Scott

Dude....seriously... I just got my refurbed M6811 and did fresh install using standard PC and this thing RIPS!..... holy crap. Kills my desktop dual 1ghz g4. I slapped 30-35 d-verbs on at 128 buffer and recorded a bunch of tracks stereo and It was like at 75% ...35 dverbs! I'm freaking out. I only have 768m or ram too! This machine is incredible...

...and it can go to 2 gig of ram! www.newegg.com has 1 gig sticks for just over $100-$117 . The second ram slot is under the keyboard and harder to access, but i plan on doing it.

Even if you plan on just replacing the ONE user accessable stick with a 1 gig stick, you got 1.2 gig...and that smokes!...

Dude...Do yourself a favor and take a LONG HARD look at this machine. AMD is the only way yo go as far as i'm concerned for PC....

Im a V-stack user and I use my vst's live and in the studio and this is the most stable system i've EVER been on PC.

The display kills...dvd burner...wifi..80 gig hd...c'mon .....deal of the century. Just make sure that if you get a refurb (dont mind the cracked hinge thing...not a big deal IMHO, i got em...oh well.. ) --make sure it comes with a system restore disk...mine didn't and i had to scour the net for drivers....lame..hahahahah........GO AMD!
