Re: New G5s are here
"what i want to know is if they will REQUIRE tiger to boot. "
That's what I've heard (someone in another user group who contacted Apple). |

Re: New G5s are here
You heard right.
The new G5's will ONLY run with 10.4 You can't install 10.3.x on these machines. So if Digi releases a Tiger approved PT in - say August - than that's how long we'll have to wait in order to use a new G5 for PT. |

Re: New G5s are here
Digi's compato page for PT v6.9 says 4-6 weeks for Tiger compatible release of PT|TDM.

Re: New G5s are here
4-6 weeks isn't as bad as I expected. Tempting to wait, but that $2299 price for a fully warranted refurb is just as tempting.

Re: New G5s are here
I just picked up one of the "old style" dual 2.0 Ghz at my local Apple store for $1899. This is brand new in the box, not a refurb. I prefer it over the new dual 2.0 as it: a) Does not have Tiger, b) is Digi approved, C) 8GB vs 4GB RAM total, D) PCI-X vs. PCI.

What is an issue is that you have to send off for Tiger, and I don't feel like setting up the new machine twice... (I'm not running PT on this machine, since I'm still on MIX.) |

These probably aren't refurbs. They are a combination of the machines that were a NAB at Apple's booths (50 or so) and current stock that won't go out or has been returned from the supply channels because of the new machines.

Re: New G5s are here
Can someone tell me if the new G5 2.7 will have much more impact than the original G5 2.5 which are now selling, I believe for $2299? I'm trying to figure out (other than 64 bit) if the 2.7 will be that much faster, more efficient, especially for the LE native systems.
Thanks. |
