Problem installing PT 10 after pt9
HI all, i hope someone might be able to help me.
I have pt 9 running on my pc (win7 64bit) happily. I have upgraded to 10 and have the license etc on my ilok ok and have the ver 10 software. To install 10 I have to uninstall 9, which i have done using the uninstaller (using admin) AND i have tried it from within control panel. The ver 9 uninstalls ok, but when i try to install 10, i get a message saying that "an older version of pro tools or avidhd drivers are detected on my system and i must un install before pt can install v10" But I cant get rid of the avidhddriver (x64) no matter what i do or how i remove the v9 software. I have also tried uninstalling the avidhddriver (x64) from control panels directly but this doesnt remove it either. So Im stuck Can anyone tell me if this had been seen before and what the fix might be Short of a reformat and re install of everything) Thanks in advance Peter |

Re: Problem installing PT 10 after pt9
Problem solved.
Resorted to a stytem restore point before i put any pro tools in which get rid of everything. Moral. Always do a restore point before adding a pro tools. Peter |

Re: Problem installing PT 10 after pt9
Actually, much better to make an image or a cloned hard drive using Acronis True Image Home, or similar, of your working system before doing any updates/upgrades/installs/uninstalls.
Cheers,

Re: Problem installing PT 10 after pt9
Acronis is quite reasonable, in the $50 range. Updates are free, upgrades cost. If you clone, you lose anything on the hard drive you are cloning too as it will be overwritten. However, you can swap hard drives. If you image, it's just a file and can be stored with other images on a hard drive and then the image can be brought back to the existing hard drive that was imaged or another. Some people do both, using images for some things and hard drive clones using hard drive cages to quickly be back up and running by shutting down, swapping the OS drive in the cage and rebooting.
Cheers,
