Default PT 10.3.4/OS 10.6 to 10.3.7/OS 10.7 updates ALL audio files

We work in a multi-computer, multi-OS environment still. I notice something really concerning. Whenever we go from PT10.3.7/OS 10.7 to PT 10.3.4 & OS 10.6, it re-touches all the audio files. We're talking thousands of files being touched and rewritten. This is very concerning, especially since we're using auto-sync between systems.

A) why is this happening ? (we're past the rewriting of embedded waveforms right?)
B) why does it only happen in this combo? and not going from 10.3.7 to 10.3.7 ?

if anybody has any concrete answers to this, please advice. I need to find a way to stop the re-writing of the audio files when we swap sessions between rooms.

cheers
