Default Reel Tape Saturation sounds like Devil Voice

Hey guys,

I've had pretty good results using Reel Tape Saturation very lightly (default settings) on the main L/R with our SC48. However, I've noticed that when we have solo'd vocals (i.e. just a guy on a mic between songs), that I'm hearing an octave-down "devil voice" effect. The whole tape thing was before my time, so I really don't know if this is 'supposed' to sound like this, or if I'm missing something.

Can anyone chime in?

Is the devil voice saying the same thing as the normal-range voice?

Seriously, I've not heard this before from that plug-in or from non-virtual tape.

I'm asking a huge favor, can someone with a ProTools rig upload an A/B sample of this Fx? I'd like to hear it for myself, if not, I understand.

I´ve experienced that same "side" effect. I did use very heavy settings when I first discovered that low end hum and didn´t understand what was causing it. But when I found out that it came from Reel Tape Saturation I just plugged hi-pass filter (80 Hz or so) into the next plugin slot.

My "Devil" was quite quiet, I really wasn´t able to hear it during any songs, but in speaks it was recognizable.

I am having the same problem. The subs are making a wind noise. Whenever anything passes. A high pass will not work on my setup. It didn't happen until I updated to 2.9 and then to 2.9.1. Perhaps the plugin version is different.

Not yet. Honestly, I've just stopped using it. I certainly can't recommend it to anyone. What a shame.

I realise it's an old thread, but was curious if the demon have been driven out, or is it still inside the Venue
