Default HD Native card physically generates high pitch whine or squeal

Hello all-

Just sat down to determine what component was making a 15K + whine within our DAW (similar to some really old CRTs, for us within the older community). Thought it might be a fan or a hard drive.

It's the HD Native card

We use four Digidesign 192 i/o's (blues) each maxxed with analog output cards.

It only is heard when running PT - exit PT and the whining stops.

I've visually checked the card & traces - looks great. Reseated, restarted, and tested again....... still there.

Anyone else notice this?

Mine started singing the theme music from Barney Miller once.. but I shushed it.. (though late at night I can still hear it humming along).

Seriously though. Nothing here.

Why stop a good thing?

Well, this is a very strange thing indeed. Digi, you have any ideas?

Nvidia Video cards do this when the 12 volt power connection is not connected. This is the first I hear of an HD/Native Card doing this.

FWIW, it's been a number of days & the whining effect is no longer evident. I *think* the culprit may have actually been a power supply capacitor, but without a chance to swap a whining supply it is still only a guess.

However, I will report back when more info is available.
