Default Parallel Task Optimisation

Just found this hiding in Preferences .. not sure when they snuck it in. But probably one of the more exciting new features. It's Default is 'Off', so go change it up !

Parallel Task Optimization (Pro Tools HD Only)

The Parallel Task Optimization preference lets you select the optimal possible number of parallel processing tasks that can happen at the same time on your computer. Relevant factors include how many core processors your computer has, how fast the processors are, how fast or how fragmented your hard drives are, how fast your network storage connection is, and so on. The optimal possible number of parallel processing tasks is usually pro- portional to the number of core processors in your computer.

Affected parallel processing tasks include:
• Waveformcalculation
• Fileindexing
• RenderingClipGain,ClipEffects,andElastic Audio

Compare different settings to see what works best with your system.

Off Only a single task is processed at a time
Low Up to 4 tasks can be processed simultaneously
Med Up to 6 tasks can be processed simultaneously
High Up to 8 tasks can be processed simultaneously

When working with an Avid NEXIS network storage system, select the optimal setting for your net-work connection as follows:

Low 1 Gb Connection
Med Dual 1 Gb Connection
High 10 Gb Connection

PARALLEL TASK OPTIMISATION

Be careful with this one.
I remember changing it to ON about 2018.4-2018.7, and pro tools ultimate started crashing frequently even when doing nothing after opening the session. Removed all plugins, one by one, nothing helped. Clearing the preferences (Parallel Task Optimisation is OFF by default) helped. Then, after switching it to on even without no plugins, and PT started crashing again. Usually a couple of minutes after opening the session. Left it off since.

OS X 10.12.6 , cMac Pro 5,1.

If you work with it with recent versions of PT Ultimate and have no crashes, let us all know :)
