One reason why Pro Tools 8 crashes at Quit

Hi there,

after having identified and rooted out - mainly reading here at the DUC- the usual suspects, like Melodyne Essential plug-in causing severe problems in version 7.3, after installing and working on PT8 for at couple of days, I went on to identify the reason for the crashes I experience every time I quit Pro Tools.

The method was simply to take out of the plug-ins folder any and all non-Digirack plug-ins, insert them one at a time and then quitting Pro Tools to find out if I could reproduce the problem. As that didn't yield any "result" in terms of "an" unexpected quit message, I then went on to put third party plug-ins back into the folder and test those in the same manner. No problems. Pro Tools opened and quit without hick ups.

There's no question, that on my little current system MacBook 2.4, 4 GB RAM and MBox2 Mini, the culprit of the crashes was Rewire. But just FYI, here's the thing. Not until you actually engage your Rewire by, actually, opening the slave does the problem occur. The insert itself, Pro Tools pointing to Rewire, does not cause the problem. This means, of course, that the work around to this, apparently, fairly benign problem is to bounce any Rewire slave material as soon as you can during your work on any project. You can then leave your inserts, active or inactive, whichever way you like. As long as you don't open your slave, you should be fine.
