Default FCP export audio @ 24 fps on 23.98 sequence ?

An FCP question ? Working on a 23.98 fps project in P T and the video editor keeps trying to export the audio sequence at 23.98 but P T keeps saying that they are 24fps files is there any work around for this ?

Thanks in aadvance

Just talked to a friend who says that it is a bug in the info that FPC puts in to the meta data of the files but that they are 23.98 files. Has anyone else found this to be true ??

to be honest I've never really noticed. I usually look at what the picture file is. If the MOV file reports 23.98, then I put protools at that frame rate, spot the video file so it is in sync with the PT timecode ruler...then I import the OMF and see if everything works...

Does the QT move also say it's 24? If so then I haven't seen that...What version of FCP are they using?

If it's just the OMF that's opening in PT at 24fps, that's normal. Reset the PT Session Setup to 23.976 and you'll be fine.
Hope that helped :)

Yes, all the FCP 23.98 shows I've gotten made OMFs that are flagged as 24. I think it's an FCP bug.

It's not a bug! It's a feature! LOL!

But seriously it IS a bug, Apple knows about it, and no they aren't planning a fix anytime soon... Simply changing the timeline to 23.98 will fix the problem, providing it's the first thing you do after you open the OMF.

And, timeline position changes when you make it 23.976. Always have the editor put flash/pop at head and tail, You'll need them. Ask the editor what frame number the flash/pop happens at, and after importing omf and changing frame rate to 23.976, slide the whole audio so the pop falls on the right frame.

Ahhh, so sad that this (a 2-pop) has become something we need to "ask" for, and that the placement of the pop has almost become arbitrary.

You probably know this already, but for those reading who may not know:

If the pix editor asks, say that he/she has 2 choices: either put the pop at 00:59:58:00 or at 1:00:06:00. It's always 2 seconds, no more, no less, before the 1st frame of the film/episode/reel, etc. the 59:58 placement is more common to video/TV, the 00:06 is correct for film.

best,

Joe
