Not that it isn't beautiful - cause it IS!
And not that I wouldn't have one if I could justify it -- cause I would!
And I am not saying its wrong --- just observing that... (assuming HDX-1)

It is fascinating that the non-audio processing piece of this room is >10X what any of the audio processing pieces are ... funny world...

It's really no different than a car. Like a car, you can rent one for a few weeks too. This certainly lends itself to rental better than an icon or C24 ever did!

I'm just the chauffeur. I'll drive whatever car my client wants to pay for!

And therein lies the problem to me Bob. I'm afraid Avid is "stuck" in the past world of chauffeur driven limos instead of the current ride a bike to work culture!

Now, maybe there is an S4 in the pipeline, but to me the S6, if sold in a truly modular way and at reasonable prices, could be all things to all people. Avid will still get their big sales to big post in the form of big fancy consoles with stock frames and lots of modules purchased, and us mid level music people will still get the best controllers out there without breaking the bank or being forced to buy configs we don't want/need.

Certainly the size of the limo world is returning to what it was some years ago but it still very much exists as a profitable market.

Avid better hope so.

And more to the point... why not go after both at the same time? (unless there's an S4 coming)

It exists in post and broadcast larger than ever. In music I doubt that Avid can compete profitably with anything cheap enough to compete with used consoles that could also be capable of competing in the high end post world of networked audio and video. Between MIDI and then Napster, the new large music studio console as we knew it is indeed gone.

You're reinforcing my point exactly Bob.

Charging what one thinks the client can afford instead of pricing it to be competitive seems short sighted to me.

So big post can afford it and mid level music studios can't.

If you simply open it up to be truly modular, you'll still get the big post orders but you open up a sales channel that simply won't be there because the cost of entry is prohibitive.
