Default Headroom???

How much headroom do you guys usually have a the master fader? I put Inspector on the master fader & most of my stuff is between +3 to +1 dB headroom. Would it be better to leave more for the mastering stage? If so, how much? I dunno......

I'm usually at 1-2 db of headroom with no problems. A light application of Waves L2 (no more than 3 db of gain reduction) and my CD's sound similar in level to most store-bought ones.

Only 1-2dB? I thought I was feeling guilty about only leaving 3dB! Does anyone leave more?

I run thru the track with inspector on, and then put it -.1 before clipping! I then BTD and usually that's enough room for mastering because it's just a few transients up there and I dont compress much during the mix.

yes I am... however I am pissed that re-installing protools due to a botched install of the wavedriver has caused me to only be able to install 6.1 - see my other post and try to help if you can.

back to what you said... my triton is awesome, my mesa is happy with new tubes, I have replaced my marshall halfstack, I have a bunch of new mics, some new cymbals, cables, rack gear, and some other percussion....

Sounds great, I always seem to go nuts writing new stuff when I get new gear. Good luck!

I'd apologize for hijacking the thread but...it's mine.

I am blasting out more music per hour than ever before!luckily I just got "hired" to do the music for a video game mod, which is cool. I came up with some awesome war-style music the other day on the keyboard. Add me to your messenger if you wanna chat sometime [email protected]

wow, meeting someone on the internet in the same time zone as me!
