Why only 8 out on TDM bus
When you have SampleCell on the TDM bus shouldn't it be easy to allow many more digital outputs than just the measly 8 that the analog world gets?
Love the fact that you can route the outs through PTs and TDM sequencers, but since all these front ends have many mixing channels available more voices out would make SampleCell *really* useful. |

Re: Why only 8 out on TDM bus
This is just a hardware limitation of the card. It was designed for 8 outputs and unfortunately it is just not possible to add more (even through TDM) without completely re-designing the hardware.

Re: Why only 8 out on TDM bus
This is a good idea. How about a new SC card with better support for TDM. More outputs. More control of individual samples within an instrument...how about I send you a list or better yet.. let me help you design it

Re: Why only 8 out on TDM bus
If you need 16, 24 or how-ever much RAM and outputs you want you should look into buying multiple SC cards with piggys. They work fine together and judging by the amount of electronics it takes to get what you have now I just don't think that squeezing more out a SC card is possible.

Re: Why only 8 out on TDM bus
Dear Digi
I think what Jim alludes to is the abilty he had with a Waveframe of assigning any sample to any one of 128 outputs. Now of course this would be darned near impossible to do with the current SC card (requires all new design) but it would be nice to have more than 8 tdm output busses. It seems to me that that is simply a software solution. So sue me if I'm wrong. As to your suggestion of buying more cards...very cool do you have a discount for buying in bulk I love SC and for me the limitation is more to do with separate control over samples within an instrument. At the very least we should have a way of putting different envelopes on individual samples as opposed to the global one we have now. Also a proper Global Pitch adjustment rather than the way it works now (moving the keygroup up or down) It's nice that you added the editor portion to SC but it's still a little kludgy. You can't easily adjust the start point without actually chopping off the beginning of a file. The adjustment on the sample parameter page is far too tricky (not fine enough) to be of any real use. I find I'm better off editing the file somewhere else and bringing it back into SC. The modulation routing is good but slightly counter intuitive. I've been using the card for about 5 or 6 six years and I'm just getting the hang of it and I am a high school graduate...almost! There's a bunch more stuff but hey I don't want to go on. If anyone's interested I'd be glad to send a list on to the R+D dept if you like! yours Kevan |

Re: Why only 8 out on TDM bus
I was looking closely at my SampleCell software and hardware the other day and I saw the damndest thing...it's getting dusty. It almost seems as though the Digidesign research and development team has forgotten about this product. It's so rare that an update (much less, an upGRADE) becomes available. If you provide the world with a product with at least 64 voices and 64 note polyphony, 24 bit capability (that also supports 16 bit for older CD-ROMS) 16 outputs (even if just for TDM???), and an improved editor, then I will kiss the ground that each of you walks on. If I don't see some of these things in the near future, I will use the same lips to ask my dealer for another sampling alternative.

DIGI!
GIVE ME AN UPGRADED SAMPLECELL OR GIVE ME DEATH! (I will of course offer the appropriate quantity of yankee currency for said schwagg...) Your Trully, BKR |
