Can't install PT 9 system extension problem...why?

I began by uograding to SL and was able to open pt8. Then I installed the HD driver for PT9 and it says:

Systems extension can not be used

"\systems/library/extension/RTL8187B1.kept was installed improperly and can not be used. Try reinstalling it or contact the vendor

What is this extension?
