Default HD Native not powerful enough ?

Hi Guys,

I have the following session as my goto-template:

- about 64 channels of audiotracks (most mono)
- 8 aux inputs stereo as subgroups
- 5 auxes stereo as headphone feeds
- 4 auxes stereo as FX
- 1 stereo master fader
- 8 VCA-groups
- 6 stereo instrument channels

That's about it.
There's no media, plugins, content or whatever.
It's just the channels, to have them right at my hand.

- When I open 5 pre-fader bus sends on each track as headphone mixes, the session won't even play back at 64 samples of latency.

OK, maybe too much.

But when I open 1 instance of Kontakt 3 with a grand piano, I'm not able to record a single track at 64 Samples. I need to go to 256 Samples.

What's the problem ?
Again, there's not media or any plugins in the channels.

My system is: Mac Pro, Quad 3,7 GHz, 16 GB RAM.
Setup is: 4 CPUs at 85 %

What can I do ?
What do I do wrong ?

Thanx in advance

There a setting in Kontakt to set the number of Cores you use, you need to turn this off, it clashes with protools which is also managing the CPU load via the playback engine settings. try that

There is something else going on in your system. You should not have problem with a session like that, especially on HD Native with a Mac Pro.

Thank you guys, that's what I thought, too.

But what could it be ?
Any suggestions ?

Do you need some more info of anything ?

Hold the shift key down whilst you open the session. See how it runs then.

If everything is cool, start activating plugs one at a time until you see a problem.

Hi Danander11,

thank you for the hint.
This just doesn't help me, as there are no Plugs in the session...

I agree. Set CPU usage to one core less than the maximum but at 99%. See if that helps.

Hi guys,

so now I did what you guys said.
In fact, changing the engine settings in Kontakt didn't do a thing.
Changing the CPU-thing from 8 / 85% to 7 / 99%, didn't do anything either.
Updating Kontakt from 4 to 5 brought a huge difference.

But still...
When I open a session with 60 tracks.
All got 4 FX-Sends and 5 HP-Sends. Nothing else in the session.
I can't hit play at 64 Samples.
Is this normal ?

Can somebody verify ?
What does DigiTechSupport say to it ?
