Default No sound in Windows

Hi all.

I have a Dell PC running Windows 7 Home with a DigiDesign 002 running Pro Tools 8.

In Pro Tools everything is fine but I don't get an sound from any other Windows applications. I have the Playback device set as S/PDIF (but have tried the other options with no success).

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I've had a bit of a search on these very forums but not found a solution.

Do you get sound from Windows Apps when PT is closed?

You mean in Windows>Control Panel>Sound, the 002 set as Default playback Device?

No mute button engaged on the 002/power amp to monitors?

The 002 doesn't appear as it's own device-I can just choose form the various inputs/outpus i.e. S/PDIF / ADAT / Line 1/2 / Line 3/4 etc.

Definitely not, no.
Hmmm...my 003 appears as its own device.

Make sure you have the latest drivers and re-install them with 002 switched off then reboot with it switched on.

Default Re: No sound in Windows

One simple solution is to use the onboard audio for all non-Pro Tools sound. Feed a cable(stereo mini to dual RCA) to the Alt inputs on the 002 and push the Alt to Mon button to listen to all non-PT sound.

BTW, "Playback set to SPDIF" could be a SPDIF output on the motherboard. I use that to feed the SPDIF input of my Presonus Central Station for all of my non-Pro Tools audio(sounds much better than the mini plug analog output). There's no easy way to route that thru the 002.
