Six screws is really weird. How can it be possible?

I checked several editions of the D-command manual, pictures of units and they all have pictures that look exactly as my unit. Even fader plates on fader modules have five screws.

We have the same problems with our D-Command faders, and are considering cleaning the faders like CHD descriped.
But I was wondering, did anyone else already cleaned the faders with succes?
Don't want to kill our D-Command... Thanks!

I tried cleaning, ended up replacing with the new faders
the first of the black units still had the old faders (old stock I figure)

Thanks Craig, I'm affraid we have 'first edition' faders to... :-(
Perhaps we'll first try cleaning one or two faders.

A couple years ago I was having this problem on my blue D-Command and Digi send me a new set of 24 carbon faders and I haven't had a problem since. Sound like they know what the problem is and there is a known fix. Good luck getting that outta Avid these days though...

First, unplug the unit!!! Remove fader caps. To open D-Command, unscrew the 5 screws which hold the metal plate with faders with the help of a 2 mm HEX tool. Pull up the plate, taking care not to damage the wiring. Then unscrew the faders from the plate with the same tool. Beware dropping the screws inside. Then unplug wiring shown on pics 2 and 3. Pic 4 shows the metal enclosure. Just pull the two parts apart accurately. Pic. 5 shows the pink plate. The dark grey stripes on the plate are the contact tracks you need to clean. I used just a dry tissue, no solvents or cleaning liquids. When assembling everything back be careful while pushing the faders' wiring inside the D-Command. Wish you luck with your cleaning! My unit is working OK for 6 weeks already.
By the way, are my faders plastic or carbon? Pic 6 shows stickers with numbers on the fader.

I had problems with 3 or 4 faders since i bought a used D-Command 6 months ago or so...
I just had the time to follow your procedure last week. All my faders are like new now! No more fighting faders!!!!

Same here ,I just cleaned a bank of 8 "fighting" faders on a blue unit and it's back to normal.
