Default Audio file import functionality question

I need software to simply mix and edit multiple guitar tracks. (and also maybe throw in some of the software's drums and effects, eq, etc)
I use a USB microphone (Blue Ball) that works very well for mic-ing my aqustic guitars as well as amps.
I notice Pro Tools M-Powered 7 Multitrack Recording Software requires a M-Audio interface piece of hardware.
Does this mean unless I have one plugged in, the software wont function simply as editing software? (I just want to continue recording with my USB mic and then just import the tracks (wav) into the software for editing)
Will this work?

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, providing you have the M-Audio device connected when using the Pro Tools software for import/editing.

spkguitar, thanks for the reply!

I think i'm going to go out and get the software and just buy the lowest end required hardware:
JamLab Personal Guitar System. Its like $60.
