Its a good deal for people sitting on 9. Im gonna wait a few years now for my sweet deal. Even though they say they will lock me out into the cold I think they are liars.

I've already decided to not give Avid any of my money for this Ponzi scheme. Fix it and make it more equitable for those of us who bought into the upgrade to PT11 from PT10 at full price and now to have it undercut like this?

That's the one odd thing about the announcement. Management has since been very accommodating to just about everyone other than those that supported Pro Tools on a consistent basis. They could've really come across as heroes if they threw the remaining group a bone. If most established studios are running outdated versions of Pro Tools, then a discount to the remaining group (most of whom are probably heavy contributors to this forum anyway) likely wouldn't be so financially devastating. A little bit of goodwill could've gone a long way, especially to kickoff something so monumental as a new licensing system. My 2 cents.

Apologize for being dense here.

I have these authorizations on my Ilok2.
10.3.9 and 11.2.1 ,Vanilla, no Avid hardware.

So my status at this time is?

1. I have until Dec 31 2015 to decide if I want to pay $199.00 for the new Support plan.

2. Question: As of 11/1/2014, Am I entitled to any of the bug fixes between now and 12/31/2015, if I have not signed up to a support plan?
Or are my existing 2 licenses locked at those versions, until I sign up for a support plan?

3. As in question #2 If for example version PT 11.5 is released as an update and I have not currently joined a support plan am I entitled to that upgrade?

4. Is it correct that as of 1/1/2016 I must sign up again for what ever plan will be available, at a yet to be determined cost and or functionality, this being If I had signed up during 2015 to the support plan.

Clarification on these few points would be most appreciated.

+1 from me.

My PT11HD will be frozen as is. I'll take the free upgrades to my PT11 vanilla student until the four years run out, then that too will be frozen.

While I'm very disappointed, it's no more than I expected.

Avid's plans and mine are perfectly aligned it seems ... it is offering me nothing, and so I'm giving it nothing.

"it is offering me nothing, and so I'm giving it nothing"

They haven't actually announced pricing for those of us who already have 11 or HD11, it's as if Avid are waiting to see how pissed off people are before they set a price! Well I'm PISSED OFF Avid! There HAS to be some sort of drastic price cut or added incentive (free Pro plugins?) before I'm going to buy into this (again....)

Actually they have announced the price and it's the same for everyone - $199 for non-HD and $599 (I think) for HD. That's why early adopters of PT11 are incensed.

I can swear that I saw Pro Tools 9HD being included in the 599$ upgrade price when they released this statement? Has that been revised or am I missing something?

In answering your questions, my understanding, based on what Avid and Tony has said is ...

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. No
4. No, you must sign up to a support plan before the end of 2015. Otherwise, your existing perpetual licence will no longer be upgradable. You can carry on using it though. Should you subsequently decide you want a newer version, you'll have the choice of either buying a new perpetual licence at full price, or you'll have access to one or more other attractive licensing options, which seems to be code for 'you'll be able to rent a licence monthly or annually'.

Regarding the interaction between your questions 2 and 3 ... Among all the other things that remain unclear is this ...

Let's say you don't join the support plan yet, so you are using 11.2.1

In a few weeks, there may be a bug fix update, lets call it 11.3

After that, a new feature release is issued, only for people on support plans, call it 11.5

Then, after that, a bug fix release is issued, that fixes problems with the new feature that first was seen in 11.5, and also fixes long standing bugs that are in 11.3 and 11.5

Are Avid likely to issue several variants of bug fix releases? It seems unlikely, as over time that would become very unwieldy.

Therefore, as soon as a new feature release comes out, that is likely to be the end of the line for bug fixes for people not on a support plan.

So, Avid's move away from major upgrade release cycles into a world in which new feature upgrades and bug fix updates are released much more frequently, is likely to result in only one thing ...

You'll have access to only a very limited set of bug fix updates if you don't sign up to the support plan.

Yet another lever being pulled in an attempt to coerce us onto the support plan regime!

I don't see it as an option to buy from the Avid store yet (only upgrades from 10, 9, LE etc) and it says "Buy ProTools 11 with Standard Support - Coming Soon" on the web site, so no I don't think they have finalised this yet.
