Default No Help in sight!

I've posted here before about this, with almost zero response, but things are getting worse.

I have now uninstalled PTLE 7.3 and reinstalled PTLE 7.4. Now, when I click on the Help menu, I get the dropdown list, but clicking on any item in the list gets the same result - 'cannot find whatever', with a jolly little exclamation point.

All the items are in the Applications>Digidesign>Pro Tools>Documentation folder and I can open them, in Preview, from Mac HD, just not from the Help Menu.

Ignoring that for the moment, I needed to do a Fade, so clicked Command F. Nada. Went to Edit> Fades and Fades was all greyed out. I tried loading older projects, where I knew there were Fades , with the same result. (Manually drawing a Fade, with the Pencil tool, works fine.)

Any ideas as to fixing these nuisances?

Thanks in advance,

Adrian.

Fades are:
Fade in = Option + D
Cross fade = Option + F
Fade out = Option + G

For the first question - where is the documentation on your hard drive?

It should be on MacHD>Applications>Digidesign>Documentation>Pro Tools.

If it's not that specific hierarchy, the Help menu won't work properly.

As for the second question - are you selecting the head or tail of a region before trying to do a crossfade? If not - that may be the problem. If you are, can you give us more details about the session parameters, how you're selecting and any other details that may have relevance?

Delso, have you still got the 7.3 Ref Guide etc in the Documentation folder. I believe having both in there can cause problems.

Fades seem to be OK now. They need a clear beginning/end of a Region highlighted. Presumably, for MIDI Regions, you draw a Velocity curve????

The Help situation is unchanged. All the documentation is where TechSupport said it should be and, Phil, there is no 7.3 material there. I've even tried renaming the files to match what the dialog box says it can't find and it still can't find it!

I've also used Search on the Mac HD and Applications folders and it couldn't find the files, either.

Preview has no problem.

I'm baffled!

Try reinstalling the documentation - the installers are available here.

Thanks, guys! All is now well on the Help front. I do think it could have been made clearer, when I upgraded, that there was a separate installer for the Tech Docs., but no harm done. Thanks again.

Well, I'm back with the same problem! I hadn't used my studio for several months and when I went back to Pro Tools, I found I was pretty rusty and hit "Help". Nada. I checked this thread, followed the links, downloaded the doc_installer for Mac onto my Internet-connected PC, put it onto a memory stick and copied it into my iMac.

When I tried to open it, I got:

"Disk Image Failed To Mount", then "pt_le_mp_doc_installer_v74x_51851.dmg not recognised".

Any idea why? Anyone?
