Default iMac G5 for friend - about to buy, but fan issues?

im trying to convince my friend to get an iMac G5
for audio recording (yes i know PTLE is not supported
in Tiger, yet) but ive seen that some here may have an opinion
on the iMac G5 and possible hardware/fan issues..

ive seen the posts on the apple discussion board, but no
concrete conclusions or solutions... just wondering if
any of you can shed some either 1st hand or 2nd hand knowledge
on hardware issues associated with the iMac G5..

..maybe there is no solution (yet)..(like MDD wind tunnel mac of yore)
just curious on what to expect and looking for ammo to interrogate the
'mac genius' at the nearby store on this.

thanks!

I had to replace the midplane of my iMac G5 because of the fan noise. The new fan had a different design and solved the problem. The replacement was pretty easy but I am comfortable ripping things apart. I hope Apple has solved the problem by now. BTW, it's a great machine.

i am also not afraid to take computers
apart, but im more familiar with the towers
than these more compact designs... i.e. wary
of plastic clips and such...

so you replaced the midplane which Apple sent
to you or you came up with your own fix?

thanks!
