Default PT and NTFS

Has anyone experienced any problems with reading/writing sessions to NTFS partitiions?

I added a new 7200 120 gig HD, formatted it as NTFS (running XP) but my old session files wouldn't open in PT.

I repartitioned/reformatted the drive with some FAT32 partitions, and the sessions opened fine when moved to a FAT32 partition.

Everything I've read in the DUC seems to indicate that NTFS should be fully compatible, but I've had some problems. I'd rather have my audio session drive with one big NTFS partition if at all possible.

Thanks!
-John

I have had no problems with the NTFS on my drives, however I recomend that you stay with fat32 because it is compatible with our Mac friends where NTFS is not.

Point of clarity- what is incompatible between mac and NTFS, do the PT sessions not open properly, or does it have to do with the audio files? Thanks, David

Also interested in the Mac / fat32 issue, just built new computer for pt, - a7v333-xl, xp2500, 512mb corsair 3200, 2 x 120 wd 8mb cache drives and a big ass 17inch flat panel lcd .. haven't yet installed my "001 legacy product"..

At present i've partitioned my system drive as ntfs csystem) 30gig and the remainder as a single partition for back up or whatever.. My 120 gig audio drive is partitioned in half in ntfs. I am planning to take pt sessions to studio's running mix systems on macs to mix occasionally for larger projects so i want to get this sorted out..

For mac compatability do i need to run fat32 partitions for audio? And if so, can i run a single fat32 partition on a drive with the remaider of the disk running ntfs, or would a session that was tracked onto a ntfs drive, then moved to a fat32 drive and burnt to cd with the joliet extension work or make any difference? ta

Also big thanks to all you guys, Allen and all the knowledgeable ones who choose to share, made buying and building a solid machine that much easier.

cheers

michael

No this wasn't even a session. I had given the guys a Data CD of the stereo .wav files off of my harddrive that they were taking to get mastered, and I got a call from the Studio saying they couldn't find a single mac that would read the files. I think it's because files in NTFS store information about the file in a different place than fat32. I later found out that NTFS wasn't compatible at all with mac.

The data CD needs to be in Joliet format for the Mac to read it.

I know that wasn't it because when they called I then went and put the files up on my webserver for them to download and they still didn't work. Of course by now the band wasn't to happy. Whoops
