Default How to avoid "copy selection to start"

Can the hive mind help me out here?

I recently switched from mac to pc.
Afterwards I have started making a mistake sometimes.

I suddenly discover that I have made a copy of some regions and placed them at the beginning of the session.

I am thinking that I do it while hammering away shortcuts on the keyboard. It is absolutely not something that I do intentionally.

How am I doing this without noticing it? Is there a key and mouse combo to grab a selection and make a copy at the start of the session? Could this be something that has to do with the differences between mac and pc keyboards?
