Re: authorizing pro-tools on G4 450MHZ
All I needed to authorize my copy of Pro Tools 5.1 was a serial #. There was no floppy involved.

Re: authorizing pro-tools on G4 450MHZ
I believe 5.0 still used a floppy disk. 5.0.1 and higher use a serial number for Pro Tools. 5.0.1 was a free update for all 5.0 owners, so you may want to check with your local Digidesign office to check on your registration and to get 5.0.1. That should work better on the G4 than 5.0, although you may still need a newer version of the DSI if the MIX cards are not recognized.
I was mistaken in my earlier post. According to the compatibility archives, both 5.0 and 5.0.1 were qualified on the earlier G4 models like you have: http://www.digidesign.com/support/compat/ So it's possible that all you need is the USB Floppy Enabler in order to authorize your software. Sorry for the confusion. Keep in mind that in order to open 5.1 and higher sessions on 5.0, they will have to be saved as 5.0 sessions first in 5.1.

authorizing pro-tools on G4 450MHZ
Does anybody saw this before ? Yesterday a client asked me to take is Mix plus (pro-tools 5.0)that was in a 9600 and put it in his G4 450Mhz. After deauthorizing the 9600 i installed pro-tools and the cards in the G4 (OS 9.0.4). When prompt to insert key disket (with an imation superdisk) nothing happened. i tried authorizing other things with other key disket like Bruno/Reso and D2 and D3 but everytime i got the message " this authorizer need ... (or something like this), please insert key disket". What is wrong ? They barrowed the protools 5.1 from another studio to finish our things so we didn't need the key disket but i'm confused about this unwilling from the G4 to authorize anything. Is it because of the OS 9.0.4 ? or anything else that i didn't catch? the superdisk did mount the disket on the desktop so i figure that is was working well and i used it to authorized a pro-tools last year on G4 too and it worked. Any ideas ?

Re: authorizing pro-tools on G4 450MHZ
1- You need to have the USB Floppy Enabler extension installed, as well as any extensions the SuperDisk drive needs:
http://www.digidesign.com/compato/floppy.html (the current Pro Tools installer CD should update these extensions, but you can also check under USB in the Downloads/Utilities section) 2 - Pro Tools 5.0 does not work on G4s. You could try some newer DigiSystem INIT extensions from the Downloads/DAE/DSI section, but you need to upgrade to Pro Tools 5.1 for G4 compatibility. The current upgrade from Pro Tools 5.0.1 and earlier to v5.1.3 is $295 from Digi CS or the DigiStore. 3 - "Borrowing" 5.1 from one Pro Tools system and installing it on another system is a violation of the license agreement. If you are going to use that MIX system on a G4, you should upgrade the software for compatibility.
