Pro Tools Playback slow / skipping on Macbook Pro

Hi there,
I am running Pro Tools 8 LE with an Mbox2 on a new 13 inch macbook pro. Now, I have had no problems with this current issue until now after I reformatted my MBP and reinstalled Pro Tools. When I play back an imported loop or anything for that matter, the insertion doesn't move across the edit window smoothly like it used to... it kind of skips and jumps. I have changed my buffer size and playback buffer around and no other settings seem to fix this. Any ideas?

Pro Tools version? OSX version?

OSX 10.6.4
Pro Tools LE 8.0.1

I haven't changed anything that I am aware of. I use a firewire external hard drive where i open all of my sessions from and playback all of my audio from. One thing I found odd was, when updating to 8.0.1 after my reformat, a "DigiDesign Databases" folder showed up in my external drive, within that folder is a folder named "Unicode" and within that is one file named "volume.dbb." it is only a 524KB file but it showed up after updating and I wasn't sure why.

Whether or not that is relevant to my problem, I don't know. But, I figured I'd share that information.

Pro Tools 8.0.1 is not qualified for 10.6.4.

First version for use with 10.6.x was 8.0.3.
