I know that this is in a way beating a dead horse... Yet, I would like to start a thread that strictly compares the pros and cons of mac vs. pc. i am looking to buy a new computer and i want to run the digi and other applications ie(mp3,digital photos,.. etc) So if I could get some pros of each and some cons of each it would help alot.
Thank you |

Wow ... a request for a platform war. You are brave. Heres my take.
I love both platforms for different reasons. 1) Do you have a computer or experience with either platform? If no, then go MAC. Easier to learn but more $ upfront. 2) Is cost a major factor? If yes, then go PC. Comparable power IS cheaper on the PC. 3) Who will be your support network? We all go to friends with questions and bounce ideas around. What do your other musician friends run? You can praddle on about how the MAC is blazing fast at a few tasks or how the PC is cheap but unstable (not just PT LE), but the real differences lie in the companys that produce the platforms Apple and Microsoft. Even though MS doesnt make hardware trhey control the standards so if they decide not to support something its a dead technology. Apple has a long history of innovating new technologys that are slow to be picked by the Windows world (MS). Its a tough call but start where you are and assess your needs and cash flow. This is the deciding factor for most musicians (and oddly most choose MACs ??) For the record I have several MS PCs, and have always had a certain MAC envy. Good luck

We even had a guy with user name MAC vs. PC

It's easy:
More options, higher cost and video support: MAC Less cost and FASTER: PC |

Well, asking this question on a pc forum is bound to get biased results and vice versa. I pretty much agree with ultraslide. If money is a big issue(which it usually is) you might want to go with pc. If you want a cooler looking interface and ease of use, and are willing to spend more mula, go mac. Also consider what performance issues are most important to you. You can run higher track counts with more plugins on a pc, but more special features and kinds of plugins are available for mac. (So I gather anyway)
This issue will probably be moot as time goes on and both systems become more or less equal in power. Also consider other things you might do on the computer other than music. For intance, if you are going to do lots of gaming, pc would be better. Many more games available for pc. That wasn't so bad was it Yavuz? |

I appreciate the responces!! I didnt mean to start another battle but i was looking just for pros and cons. My problem is I could afford a mac but I can't afford two computers and i want to get a system that will allow me to run PTLE and other functions and I dont know which would be more stable. I am not looking to be tracking and major sessions on this system. any further advise would be great!

Like mentioned before, I love both platforms. However I use Mac because I chose to and I'm happy--nothing against PCs. But, don't be quick to say you can't afford a Mac. They are alot cheaper than when I bought mine. I wish I was in your shoes. You can get a lot more for your money. That goes with PC's also. Only you will be able to decide what you need. I chose Mac because I have a very few nerves when it comes to computer frustration. I'm not good enough a fooling with PC's to optimize my performance needs. With my Mac, I have never had any trouble. If you can fool with PCs, get a PC. Good luck and may God Bless you with the talent he's given you.

It seems so funny to talk about this since we have been thru so many disccussions on so many lists and there is always someone who comes in and drops the spark between explosives and says Should i buy Mac or PC? It only felt natural to say "Now you've done it" The reason i gave you as the example figure was debate with you was the last i could remember. This does not mean that was the only debate. Actually i can bet any one that if you do a search with "Mac vs. PC" you are bound to find at least 5 topics at www.nuendo.com www.cubase.net or Logic-User's List
