Re: Trim automation mode: what is it for?
Let’s say you have a track with existing automation. You like the Automation behavior, but its overall level is wrong. Trim mode allows you to add and/or subtract values (indicated with the fader), while retaining the existing automation. When in Trim mode, the fader turns Yellow in color and snaps to its 0db position. Move the fader up to add; move the fader down to subtract.
Trim generates its own Automation curve, which is fully editable. Once satisfied with the changes, one can “coalesce” Trim and existing Automation, making the changes permanent (and allowing for new Trimming events). Take a moment and read all the details in the Reference Guide. IHTH.

Re: Trim automation mode: what is it for?
Particularly useful for doing different mix versions, such a "vocals 2 dB hotter" or "1.5 dB softer". Used to do this when printing mixes to tape from the big analog consoles, so that if the producer/band/label/mastering engineer had comments about the vocal levels, you could just edit between the different mixes and not have to go back in the studio and recall the mix.
