Here's something I find useful to do with the Melodyne audio to MIDI. I did some of this with Melodyne Studio 4, but with the new integration its so much easier.
Several VI's have nice patches that incorporate an interesting sequence. You can edit the patch the isolate just the sequence part of the patch and do a bit of further editing to get rid of any delay/reverb effects, and maybe the envelope, in order to get a clean play of the sequence line. Then commit audio. Then, now, just drag into an instrument track with audio to midi, and voila, you now have a midi version of that to begin playing with. I often find some of those sequences built in to a patch to be an inspiration, but, I also want to do a lot of changing...its a starting point, not an end. This audio to midi feature makes this a snap! Happy with that!
