Default Takes 3 Minutes to Load a Session

Pro Tools opens up just fine, but if I try to load any session it takes ~3 minutes to load. My Macbook Pro starts running the fan real hard while it takes forever to load the tracks. This has been happening for 2 weeks now.

Since the problem I have updated my OS to Sierra, and also did a memory & power reset. I also tried using a firewire cable with my external hard drive instead of USB, still no changes.

See my specs to see if you can figure out what might be happening. Thank you!

Your load times - is that with PT already open or are you double-clicking on the session and PT is closed? With PT already open it should be fairly quick but if PT isn't then I can see it taking time (also depends on session size).

Thanks for clarifying. Yes, the session is being opened after opening pro tools, so I am not double clicking on the session file while Pro Tools isn't open.

I just realized that the session I've been working on takes 3 minutes to open, while another session around the same size (8 GB) opens just fine. I'm not sure what is going on with this session.

WOW 3 minutes

Our PT12 HD loads up under 30 seconds and sessions with many many VI and plugins loads up under that time when PT is open. Something is stalling and I bet it is a bad plugin or a drive issue.

It could be a problem with the laptop's hard drive, although of course I only use an external hard drive for sessions. The only recent plugin I've gotten is "
FabFilter Pro-Q 2 EQ and Filter Plug-in."

Maybe it has something to do with the session itself. The guitar & vocal tracks seem to take a while to load before the session loads...

PT loads the session from top to bottom (left to right in the Mix window) so you should be able to see what it's getting hung up on in the progress dialog box.

I deleted all unused tracks and fixed one missing file. I still have the same problem.

Is it problematic to have a ton of playlists? That still wouldn't make sense though, because when it takes a while for certain tracks to be restored before the session opens, not all of those tracks have a lot of playlists. Some only have three or so.

The drum tracks load quickly, but the guitar and vocal tracks take forever. This is very strange.
