Distortion of Recording When Playing Back Recording
I am using:
Windows XP Professional 2002 Pro Tools 7.3 Project Mix IO connected to computer with FireWire Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600@240 Ghz 256 MB RAM Partioned 400 GB for Pro Tools as per Start Up Manual Installed FireWire driver for Project Mix IO Set Up Project Mix IO in Pro Tools Hardware In order to solve my problem I have: -read the online before you post instructions -searched Digidesign's database -searched DUC's database -tried calling Digidesign help line, but was unable to get through after waiting patienly for more than 90 minutes -looked in ProTools Manual and Menu Guide -called the music store where I purchased ProTools -looked in Pro Tools for Musicians and Songwriters by Gina Fant-Saez -set HUI protocol -played around with the playback engine I recently purchased Pro Tools M-Powered and a Project Mix IO. When I record tracks they sound good, the levels are good with no peak overloads, but when I play back my recording there is horrible digital distortion (sounds like a bitcrusher distortion effect) the entire time. I have set the hardware setting to default for Project Mix Io. I have been trying to problem solve this for two weeks! |

Re: Distortion of Recording When Playing Back Recording
You should start with the steps in the Win XP/ Pro Tools 6.x/7.x General Troubleshooting thread and post specific info on your system per the info on that thread if you're unable to resolve the problem.
You may want to look at the Help us help you thread as well. |

Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc. - SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application can be used to post your full system profile: www.sisoftware.co.uk Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC. One of the first things I can see is that you have insufficient RAM - 256mb is not going to cut it. 768mb is minimum, though 1-2gb is recommnended for best performance. Also, a second drive is required for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools - it does not appear that you have one. Is that the case? |
