Default Playback Cursor Jerky Motion

I've upgraded to Pro Tools 12.3 and am using El Capitan. All is fine so far except the playback cursor does not move smoothly across the screen. Rather, the motion is quite jerky and doesn't follow the actual playback audio smoothly or in very good sync. This makes it impossible to use it for finding edit points visually.

Anybody else seeing this, and are there any preferences that can be adjusted to bring the motion back to it's normal smooth motion across the screen?

Thanks in advance,

Tom Carlson

Yes I have this. I have reported it to Avid. I suggest you do too. It made it impossible to edit. I have gone back to Yosemite. There is no fix as yet.

Have you tried the Quartz Debug fix? Here is a YouTube link:

Yes thanks I have seen this. Yosemite fixed it for me. I will wait till it's been resolved with Avid/Apple.

Thank you, GlobalHiccup! That solved it. Although the latest version of Quartz Debug doesn't have the Beam Sync option, simply opening the Quartz Debug program makes the motion of the cursor smooth again. By the way, the speedometer shows 60. I'm assuming that's 60 FPS.

Well, I spoke to soon. Downloading and opening Quartz Debug fixed the jerkiness for a while, but now seems to be back with the jerky motion. I'll try to troubleshoot it when I get a chance.

I have been complaining about the play cursor jerky motion since Pro Tools 9 (I never used PT 10), but I feel that Pro Tools 12.3.1 with El Capitan reduces it to a minimum. I feel that it is usable at this point.
Avid has never acknowledged this condition, but the fact that they fixed it a bit is good news. They obviously know about it and are working on it.
I think the sticky fader problem was related to this and they seem to have fixed that.

It also seems that the Beam Sync option is now gone from Quartz Debug. I'm not sure if any of the other options are relevant. I've attached a screen shot to show the options. Anyone know enough about this to know if any of these should be checked or unchecked?

I am lucky as we don't have thise jerky issues but i saw a few videos from Dave Pensado and from Avids AES videos demoing PT12 which is sad to see from the actual makers of the DAW ...

Makes a hard job ever harder and every little bit that cause annoyance is just adding to the vibe killer of making great tunes. I truly and sincerely hope this gets fixed ASAP in this coming dot updates.

It feels very stupid that Apple's 'front line' product doesn't work with Pro Tools. It works with Beam Sync off (Yosemite), but then Apple removes also that option (El Capitan). Still, PT is the only product I have seen this jerky graphics.

With Beam sync disabled, trashcan/PT/Yosemite has very smooth graphics.
