Are you talking about the iLife stuff? Just wipe your computer clean, by putting in the the install disc, then turn your computer off, restart it and hold the C button. it should boot from the DVD. Then do a clean install by choosing the erasing option and clean install. Then under customize uncheck the additional programs and printer drivers, you can leave additional fonts and X11.

When it's done you will just have the OS and the components such as ichat, ical, etc.

Just leave those and and then install PT. There are some preferences you can set that should be in the manual.

The main thing is to check that you've followed all the advice on the General Troubleshooting page.
http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=54888

There's no real need to delete any applications unless they are running things at startup. Look at System Preferences/Accounts/Login Items
System Preferences can be found in the Apple menu (top left of screen).

Applications still there after deleting?
Right click (ctrl-click) the Trash to empty it.
Are you just deleting the shortcut in the Dock?

Thanks guys for the help....

Richard901 - Ive followed all of the instructions on the link youve provided thanks but i do have a question about this part:

Firewire Networking (Definitely disable this if you are using any kind of firewire
drive or interface!)

- Open System Prefs>Network
- In the drop-down box next to 'Show', select 'Network Port Configurations'
- Uncheck the box next to 'Built-in Firewire'
- Click on 'Apply Now' button in the lower right hand corner of the window.

I didnt see a box to uncheck so I just turned this off.. is that the correct thing to do?? Also I was wondering if I delete applications that I dont use wont I free up more space on my HD? Also can you please explain to me further how to delete items completely off of the computer?

EvilElfBoy- I have two discs 1 - the osX the other says Applications. should I do an install of only the OS disc and not the Applications disc??

Thanks guys

Firewire Networking - I think Apple have changed the layout since Digidesign wrote this. I have just turned it off like you (Configure - Off), the left-hand window shows Firewire Inactive.
"Also I was wondering if I delete applications that I dont use wont I free up more space on my HD" - yes, I forgot about that. Good idea, if you're running short of space. EvilElfBoy's idea of a fresh installation is worth doing - many people recommend doing this, after buying a new Mac.

If you've still got a good percentage of disk space left - perhaps just try Pro Tools for a few days to see if you're getting any problems.

Deleting programs? - You can just drag the program from Applications into the Trash, but certain preference files will probably be left in the Library. I don't think these small files are worth worrying about.
This thread in Apple Disccussions might help.

Just disc one. That's all you need for the basic OS. It takes about 20 min to install.

If you want to delete applications the right way, I suggest getting TinkerTool System. That is a great all around maintenance application. I use it on all my machines.
