Default cpu bar shooting up when track is stopped

hey guys
ive got a song going with about thirteen tracks and about 25 plug ins but my system is teeling me that im running out of cpu power. the song will play fine but when i stop to edit the cpu meter shoots up in the clouds and slows the system down. Is there an issue with the DVERB plug in or the 4 band eq as these are the plug ins that im using
thanks
john

Yes, put a dither in line before the DVerb. Search this forum or the web for "denormalization" to find out why.

No, it's still an issue with the plugin, and P4 Processors mostly. (not really a PTLE application problem)

Denormalization continues to happen in 6.7 with a few plugins, however, adding dither to the plug's input always seems to fix it.

It isn't a "fault" really. Like spk said, look up denormalization to find out more about whats going on here.

Respectfully, I'm gonna disagree with you on this, Chris.

I'm a software engineer, have been for a long time. If I write a program which has known problems, in predictable normal situations, and known workarounds, I add the code to handle the situation. If adding a low level of noise to the signal (putting a dither before it) prevents the problem, the plugin should do that internally.

See, in this case, it's not a tradeoff; the task at hand (reverb) is not aided in anyway by the CPU going into denormalization mode, especially if it gets stuck there to the detriment of the system's performance and stability.
