Default direct i/o vs. asio

Does anybody know of any reasons for preferring either asio or direct i/o for use with Logic 5.5?

Thanks.

Direct IO is better then ASIO IMHO. It is much longer around as the ASIO-drivers, so the bugs are worked out better i think.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Of course not, but he's referring to the fact that many people use Digidesign hardware with Logic quite successfully, using the Direct I/O drivers.

I think the AISO drivers work better in Logic than Direct i/o?

Plus you can use them in other programs as well!

Did Digi ever fix the MIDI problem with ASIO?
I remember earlier that the MIDI ports on the Digi card did not work with ASIO but they should
with Direct I/O.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You need the wavedriver installed to use your MIDI ports in logic. DirectIO and the wavedriver co-exist peacefully.

The digi ASIO driver however requires that the wavedriver be uninstalled (meaning no more MIDI port).

The only gotcha however is with wavedriver+DirectIO logic will crash on the DIOMIDI.DLL on exit. Digidesign blame emagic, and emagic blame digidesign eitherway it will never be fixed since Logic is no longer supported on the PC.

Cheers,
Marcus
