Re: Magic Track Pad as Surround Panner?
How would that be any different from using a mouse? Are you able to dedicate the pad to being the panner window?

Re: Magic Track Pad as Surround Panner?
I've used a trackpad for surround panning for over a decade. It just makes sense. These days I have a USB version, but I'm looking at the "magic" one. Looks cool because of the larger size.

Could you use the Magic Track Pad to automate midi-effects like volume and velocity smooth, instead of the awkward mouse?

Brian, this is really very cool, not to mention very intriguing! The blog on your site mentions that you use " custom settings " for the magic pad. Care to elaborate?

Re: Magic Track Pad as Surround Panner?
Recently I tried a few ways on panning in hopes to find the best suited method
- Mouse - D-command panner (jl cooper) - Magic Trackpad Besides the D-command panner being the winner in this, the magic trackpad came close. At first I hated it, but then I setup a quick-key to move the cursor to the panning window, and that really helped. Then clicking (with command-shift ?) on the trackpad would allow me to start panning at any location in that window. Took some getting used to, but it works pretty darn nice. It's more "precise" than a stick panner I find for the occasions that needed. it sucks however for fast pans. The trackpad doesn't always output smooth data, so fast pans sometimes simply go to "left/right" and not much else Mouse: Tried a few mice, and logitech G5 came in the winner for me on panning. That said I didn't try the new apple mouse which has a "magic trackpad" build into the top of it. Might be a winning combo. cheers -cd |
