Default nubus vs. PCI

howdy all...

well, i'm just doin' a little bit of
research into Protools and which system
would best suit what i'm looking for.

A couple of questions i have that
would be great to hear back on...

1) what's the difference between a nubus
and PCI system?

2) My nearest Mackie dealer is 5 hours
away (and really sucks) what is the
rough cost of the HUI unit (in
canadian dollars preferrably!) (of
course american would make it looks
sooooo much more affordable).

that's just a couple for now...hope to hear back soon!

thanx

PCI Protools III systems can run newer plugins Like LexiVerb, AmpFarm and the List goes on.

Nubus Cards can be had cheap now about $500 a card [Disk I/O, Farm, Chassis]

Also you can upgrade a Nubus power MAC to a G3! Cheap.

I've seen Hui's going used for $2000 to $2500 US.

If you are looking for a used system, I would recommend a Pro Tools|24 system. It will be a little more expensive than Pro Tools III on NuBus or PCI, but it has one great advantage. If you want to expand the system, you can add a MIX Farm later and get all the functionality of of Pro Tools|24 MIX system including access to a host of new Plug-Ins that are under development for the new card.

Even though you are purchasing used gear, you are still welcome to call our Presales line at 800.333.2137 to talk compatibility and system configuration. And the best place to start your search for used gear is our own Buy/Sell forum. Good luck!
