Default gain loss on 002 mic pre #2

Ok, So. I'm in a long session with some background singers. I've got 4 Bg singers, so I'm running two through an external Mic pre into analog 5 and 6. But the other two through mic pres 1 & 2 on digi rack. After finishing one song, then opening another, suddenly Ive ost a huge amount of gain loss on mic pre 2. Even if I crank it nothing... So I unplug the cable from the mic and plug it back in, bingo, back to normal... This has happened several times of late, gain loss doesn't seem to be gradual, but rather when i open a new sessino. Also, its just mic pre 2, not 1, not 3, and not 4. Anyone else getting this? I've found a solution, but am just curious... I've had my Power Harness replaced... (about 2 yrs ago), but am not having the other issues I was having then. Thanks all

Anyone? Yesterday I noticed levels dropping over the course of a seesion, it used to just be beween sessions... Now all of a sudded i'll find I have 6db less of input on that channel.. Problem is quickly remedied by unplugging the mic and then plugging it back in... WHY IS THIS??
