HELP! Waves V8
Hi guys,
Not sure if any of you can help but I just bought Waves SSL 400 Bundle from a guy, Version 8 (iLok) with the view to updating it to Version 9 (new system) so I can use it in PT 11. Turns out that he just transferred the iLok license to me. Didn't go through Waves transfer procedure so I contacted him and he says he "got it from a guy" ages ago and never registered it with Waves and has no way of contacting the "guy" in question. Have been in touch with Waves and all they say is that he will have to transfer the license through Waves procedure or it will remain registered to him. He does't have it registered with Waves though. So, i have a Waves SSL4000 bundle iLok license and can't do anything with it. Any suggestions people, any help would be appreciated. Rosco |

Re: HELP! Waves V8
With Waves, the ilok license means very little at this point. I'ts your Waves account that dictates ownership of your plug-ins. Waves basically gave these old ilok auths to people for free when they transferred to v9. I suspect that one of the earlier owners of your product has already transferred to the new system and sold the leftover ilok version. If waves were to honor this, they would be giving you plug-ins for free from their point of view. Good luck though.

Re: HELP! Waves V8
That sucks! Big time! If that is the case.
Waves should really have a better way of doing this. Or, iLok. One of the two, or both! I feel screwed. Surely Waves…or iLok could have put a block in there somewhere so that people couldn't transfer these licenses? NOT A HAPPY BUNNY!!!!! |

Re: HELP! Waves V8
Yep I bet that was one of the free ones that ilok made.....
You can use version 8 of the software with the ilok. You just can't upgrade. Also you could sell it and move on.....

Re: HELP! Waves V8
Ye, that really sucks though, I bought it with the view to updating to Version 9.
Just wondering how Waves could let that happen. Not very good. |

Re: HELP! Waves V8
AFAIR, user who upgraded to v9 can keep V8 on iLok but if he decides later to sell V9 he must be WUPed, pay transfer fee to Waves and has to pass V8 licences to the new user - process done by Waves and iLok.
This means that guys who sells their V8 will not be able to sell their V9. Ilok & Waves are equally guilty about allowing V8 licence transfer - (last time I checked my V8 iLok months ago when it was well-known iLok issue with double licenses and their misuse, I could see all of my V8 licenses are transferable).

Re: HELP! Waves V8
It's a hard one. So, who's guilty here? Me? The seller? Waves? Ilok?
I'm in contact with Waves now to see if anything can be done. The guy who sold it to me (who never registered it with Waves) is also in contact with them, so he tells me. Just a bit of a clusterf###k I'm well pissed! |

Actually, in your case all of them are guilty, especially the seller.

HELP! Waves V8
I'm giving the seller the benefit of the doubt (for now) as he seemed unaware of this. But seriously, Waves and iLok should NOT allow this to happen. I think that's what's pissing me off more than anything. Except maybe "losing" my money on this. (I know I still have a v8 ilok license for my money, but I can do nothing with it, which is just crap)
