all things considered, the GoFlex solution looks pretty good right now.
Wondering if you can update us at all about your further experiences with the GoFlex? I'm very much interested - I've got a Glyph unit, but keep getting intermittent drive-related errors (PT9); I expect it's settings-related, as I'm a bit of a newb on the PT platform, but interested in Thunderbolt solutions nevertheless.

Thanks for any input you can provide.

GoFlex Desk is great so far. I have some high-track count/high-sampling rate sessions that choke every few seconds on Firewire. Thunderbolt GoFlex performs flawlessly in these sessions (40-80 tracks/surround/destructive punch across 8 record tracks).

OS X sees the disk as SATA, and the performance is on par with what you would get with the same physical disk inside a Mac Pro. My Thunderbolt chain is MacBook Pro>GoFlex>external monitor.

Weirdly, I hear the drive do an occasional access "click" when I'm not in Pro Tools, and that will stop Soundminer playback. This has only happened a few times, and never in Pro Tools, so I'm not at all bothered by it. I suspect it has to do with the drive mechanism itself and not the GoFlex/Thunderbolt architecture. I will likely turn this GoFlex into my mobile hard drive, and buy more in the future. Seagate's website could be much clearer when it comes to GoFlex accessories. There are eSATA and Firewire mounts for the modular GoFlex drive enclosures. Also, there is a separate line of GoFlex Portable that are all 2.5" disks. "Desk" is 3.5" disks.

Up until now, I was using exclusively MacGurus Burly enclosures for eSATA. These are more cost-effective, and totally reliable.

Hi Reichman,

Great to hear that you have had success with the GoFlex drive.
I recently bought the Goflex 3TB with thunderbolt adapter and I keep getting a DAE 35 error in PT9.05.

Can I ask what version of PT you are using and what the serial # of your GoFlex Drive is please?

Also did you install the Seagate Thunderbolt adapter driver?

I would love to get this working. Any help is really appreciated!
Cheers,
sm

Hello Sittingmonk:

I did install the driver. Without it, older Macs can't see the drive. Here are my systems. On the Mac Pro, I run the drive on the Seagate Firewire mount, on the laptop, I run it straight as Thunderbolt:

STUDIO: JBL 4300 series surround monitoring, MacPro Harpertown 2.8Ghz 8-core, 8GB RAM, Control|24, Blackmagic Intensity Pro, eSATA hotswap tower

MOBILE: MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz i7, 16GB RAM, Digi 003, Seagate GoFlex Desk

SOFTWARE: OS X 10.7.4, Pro Tools 10.3.2 with Complete Production Toolkit 2, Quicktime 7.6.6, Soundminer 4, pluginz...

serial #: NA0TX0L7

Check "Help us help you above" and look in computer optimization. Good luck!

Thanks for the swift reply!

I tried searching web & seagate for the serial #
with no results except your post.

I should have asked for the seagate model number.
Any chance I could get it from u?

I might just return the drive as I have tried
Optimizing OS. I think my model is 5400 rpm
There was no info on the rpm on box, seagate site or data sheet!

I think I will just buy the one that u got if it's still available.
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers
