Default notepad in pro tools???

Hello,

I was just thinking as I was working in Pro Tools...it would be cool if there was a notepad where you could write down ideas or settings from your session somewhere within the program, and it would save the information within that session so each time you came back to the sesh, you could find your old settings or ideas if you needed too.

Is there something like this in Pro Tools and i just don't know about it?

File > Get Info

This command lets you enter and save information
about the session.

Left-column text fields are topic fields. Text entered
there is saved with your Pro Tools Preferences
and will appear in all sessions, allowing
you to preset the field to topics that you commonly
use.

Right-column text fields are information fields
and are session specific and will be saved with
the session.

Also, each track has a Track Comments View.

I usually include a .txt file within the session folder with any additional info including digital pics of outboard gear settings and .pdf's of any recall sheets.

You can use notpad at the same time as PT using the ALT/Tab feature to go between the two. PT will not quit working while you use it either. I use it all the time, and just save the .txt files to the session folder. Works awesome.

The COMMENTS box with each channel strip is also handy for notes.

Another thing you can do is save all your plugin settings for the session in the session folder. Make sure you come up with a naming system which works for you. This makes different settings easy to compare and they remain with the session.

Thanks Shan, that was good stuff.

In some instances, I like to use Memory Locations: just put the Edit Selection wherever you want it, then open a Memory Location (shortcut is Enter on the Numeric Keypad in Windows) and post stuff in the Comments area.

Too many of these could get messy, I suppose; just depends on how you're using them. For example, I just used one where I went to the beginning of a drum clip and recorded the idea that "Vocals follow the kick drum."
