We have an HDR and 001 and transfer files between the two all the time using FTP.

IMHO I have extensively heard all the new hard disk recorderes, and the Sound quality fo the Mackie is far superior.

You might want to go to the Online User Forum and check with some users there.

The Tascam is more pro. You can have 24 ch analog and 24 ch digital in the box at the same time. It has more robust sync capabilities too.

And you can import files directly into Pro tools.

And I think it sounds great. But I haven't compared it to the mackie.

You only get 24 channels out either way. You can mix and match cards on the HDR/MDR for whatever porpose you need. (they use the same cards as the D8B console)

You can do the same on the HDR/MDR via ftp.

All these units sound great, but IMHO the Mackie is audibly superior.

Mackie tech support is excellent.

Default Mackie MDR24/96 vs Tascam Mx2424

Looking for an alternative to taking my protools rig out for live recording. I am currently looking at these two units. I would record with these and then transfer to my TDM system for mixing etc.

Anyone have any opinions on either? especially converter quality.

Which would integrate better with protools?

Thanks

You have to choose whether you want analog or digital in each of the 3 slots. With the Tascam you can have all the cards installed at once. It's a big difference.

Trust me, the Tascam is more pro. I know guys recording live concerts with the mackie (melissa etheridge, tony bennet, etc) and they are tearing their hair out.

How do these compare to the Fostex 24-24?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hello all..

I've come with the same question regarding the same 2 machines, especially concerned with converter quality. While the bells & whistles are not as important, dependability is, as this would be used in a very critical application in a live show.

Any more discussion on the subject? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

The A-D cards in the HDR/MDR are the same cards used in te MAckie D8B. They are sonically superior to any of their competition. I've been doing both studio and live recording with an HDR for 1 1/2 yrs now and have had absolutely no problems, the quality of the audio is first rate, and the clietns are all 100% satisifed. I know many others that feel the same way.

You might want to check out the Online Mackie HD forum for more info and satisfied users.

Hope this is helpful.
