itunes music library help

Hi,

My itunes has lost its connection with my library! all my playlist have gone and its all set to default.

How can i get itunes to see my library on my external drive? i thought it was something to do with the itunes data folder location? but i've tried moving to the itunes library on my external drive, but no cigar.

UPDATE!! Luckily i have a system back-up and i managed to copy all the prefs and itunes folder from that and its restored ok.

I would like to change the folder location to a new drive! i have copied the folder across, but can't get it to be seen by itunes!! setting the itunes preference to use this folder only seems to effect new imported songs only!! i'll have another go with the itunes data folder location etc.

Thanks Claxpro,

Keep itunes music folder organised, this is probably it, though i was a bit worried this would do some strange stuff with all my aiff music files!! so i'll tread carefully.
