Default E/S configuration changed. Bug?

As I opened a session I had been working on for several days in Protools 10 (the computer had been shut down for the night) I got a message saying that "departures or exits had been disactivated", and another message after clicking for more info saying that the configuration of ES had been changed (without any of my doing). The more complete note says that the exit to the tracks has been disactivated. WHy? I have no idea. In the meantime, no sound at all playing back in the session. And I have no idea what to do to fix this, not knowing what went wrong. Help anyone?
