Losing sound quality when printing MIDI to audio
Hi,
Do you guys feel that you lose some sound quality when printing MIDI to Audio, or maybe that what you printed doesn´t sound exactly the same as your MIDI-source? I´ve had this experience with drums lately, when i print from my Arturia Spark in to PT for instance, i feel that the low-ends, like the "thumb" on the kick for instance get lost etc. Is it just me, or do you guys have similar experiences when printing? |

Re: Losing sound quality when printing MIDI to audio
Yes, I hear the same thing. It's subtle, but it's there. I also noticed the same thing in Logic a while back. Even though we're in the digital domain, there's still some kind of translation going on.
FWIW, recording the VI to audio at 88 or 96k brought better quality and closer to the original source. |

Re: Losing sound quality when printing MIDI to audio
Yea it´s very subtle! i´ll try your trick and see if it helps.
Would you mind telling me where in PT i go to record the track to 88 or 96k in PT? I am guessing that would limit my track-count as well? |

Re: Losing sound quality when printing MIDI to audio
Yes, it will limit track count.
Ideally, you would create your session from the beginning to be the higher sample rate. But if you didn't, then create a new session at the higher rate, and import everything into it. |

Might be interesting to to test if there actually is a difference; record the instr track to an audiotrack, insert trim, flip the phase and play both instr and audio track. If they are the same you should hear nothing because they cancel each other out.
Everything you do hear is the difference between the two (assuming that there is no delay between the two and levels are exactly equal....) |
