I'm wondering if anyone else out there has particularly favorite plug-in to recommend. Can be for any task or effect you find useful. Only requirements are that it: (1) has to be free; (2) can run on Mac-based PT LE 6 or higher; and (3) functions as well as, if not better than, a comparable pay-to-play plug-in.
Some really nice plug ins are in this collection. Some work in PT 8, others don't. If you can find the five-band limiter, get it.

Default Re: Best free RTAS plug-ins?

This is funny and timely.

I've got some plugs I created that I am about to be posting to my website in the next couple months.

http://www.TableSyrupStudios.com

Watch the site, as they will be up soon. My laptop died though, so I am delayed in final touches, but I'll have it done soon. Just limited to the time I have open in my studio to work on them.

(I am also about to release a line of Passive 6.5" and 8" nearfield monitors with a twist, and I also have a revolutionary MIDI instrument I'm ready to take to market that will revolutionize the way you cat's work with your MPC's, Software, etc, mostly for controlling Instruments/VI's, samples, etc.... and you may or may not know of my Compact Flash Card Readers for the MPC2000XL sold under my SMC allias)

I am going to post a bundle of 4 as a free download.

I also have a bunch that will be a purchase by plug basis, probably $40 or $50 US each.

They are all VST Based, so you'll need a Wrapper like the FXpansion deal or other.

They are kinda cool though. The freebies are versions that I'm adding additional features to and will be for sale as version 2's.

The Freebies are simple plugs.
Verison 2's of these plugs include things like selectable or auto M or S output, depending on usage needs.
Other inclusions are things like Phase Reverse on each channel, Actual M or S versions of the plugs, selectable bypass on each channel of S plugs, Wet/Dry Ratio, and more.

One plug I am currently working on is a CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY 'vocal chain plug' that basically ties all the version 2's of the freebies into one smooth plug.

Also, even my freebies will allow you to create your own presets for later recall. :) No freebie shortfalls :)

And, I am currently working on final graphical layouts to make em look like some real deal high end plugs.... wait, shouldn't I say they are? Yes, they are. The real deal high end plugs. Thank You. I love you too. :)

Version 1 Freebies:

SMC Vocalizer:
A mono or stereo, stereo plug that I use a vocals, strings, snares, etc.
Mono input goes to both output channels.
Stereo inputs go to corresponding outs.
LED Meters for 'actual, precise, real time metering'.
VU Meters for 'RMS metering'.
Saves and loads your presets. 1 Preset included with plug.

FEATURES:
LEFT AND RIGHT KNOBS for adjusting Pre or Post Delay to each channel independantly.

USES:
It's kinda cool, as it allows you to create a fat stereo spread EASILY.
100% wet by default, so I either insert on dubs, bus, or send off leads.
Cool on VOCALS, guitars, snares, etc.

SMC VoCompilizer:
A mono or stereo, stereo plug that I use for PUNCHY compression!
Especially good on HipHop Vocals and Drums!

Mono input goes to both output channels.
Stereo inputs go to corresponding outs.
LED Meters for 'actual, precise, real time metering'.
VU Meters for 'RMS metering'.
Saves and loads your presets. 5 Presets included with plug.

FEATURES:
Think simple gated compressor.
FADERS AND CORRESPONDING INDEPENDANT LED METERS for:
Input Gain, Gate, Compression, Output Gain.
Input Meter, Gate - reversed level meter, Compression -reversed level meter, Output Meter, and standard VU Meters on Outputs

USES:
Super cool for getting a REALLY PUNCHY controlled rhythm.
100% wet by default, so I either insert on leads, dubs, or bus.
GREAT on Hip Hop Vocals or Drums... etc.

SMC VoQualizer:
A mono or stereo, stereo plug that I use super dope Delayed EQ effects!

Mono input goes to both output channels.
Stereo inputs go to corresponding outs.
LED Meters for 'actual, precise, real time metering'.
VU Meters for 'RMS metering'.
Saves and loads your presets. 5 Presets included with plug.

FEATURES:
KNOB CONTROLS for switchable Low-High Pass Filters for each channel independantly.
KNOB CONTROLS for adjusting Pre or Post Delay to each channel independantly - POST EQ.

USES:
It's super cool, as it allows you to Delay selected frequencies.
Like a delay-able crossover. For instance, you can delay high freq of 3+K, to give your highs more air, spread, and fatness.
100% wet by default, best when you send to bus.
Cool on VOCALS, GUITARS, WINDS, ALL STRINGS, etc.

SMC TubeAlizer:
A mono or stereo, stereo plug that I use to simulate Tube Pre Saturation!

Mono input goes to both output channels.
Stereo inputs go to corresponding outs.
LED Meters for 'actual, precise, real time metering'.
VU Meters for 'RMS metering'.
Saves and loads your presets. 5 Presets included with plug.

FEATURES:
KNOB CONTROL for Input Gain.
KNOB CONTROL for Tube Saturation. Independant Tube saturation meter. Cool to Hot.
KNOB CONTROL for Output Gain.

USES:
It's kinda cool, as it allows you to add simulated Tube Saturation.
Drive your input gain and tube saturation to where you want it,
Subtle to warm, Smoothly or Harshly Distroted, or so hard its just digital noise,
Then adjust your output.
Has tube characteristicts, so tube saturation control acts like you would expect from a tube... but a digital one :)
100% wet by default, so I either insert, bus, send to bus, depending on needs.
Cool on just about anything that needs it...

If anyone is interested in pre-release beta, give me a shout.
Plugs are provided as a .dll file.
Just paste em to your plug folder and go to town.

Pretty nice loop player for your loops / software instrument pack (nice, for being free):
http://www.uvisoundsource.com/uvi-wo.../articles_id/8

Was Kore Player already mentioned?
http://www.native-instruments.com/#/...ayer/?page=356

Kontakt Player:
http://co.native-instruments.com/ind...ontaktplayerdl

Marshall-ish guitar amp simulator:
http://www.studiodevil.com/download/

Amplitube Duo (guitar amp simulator), if this free registration deal is still active:
http://www.obedia.com/Amplitube.cfm

And there's this effect for vinyl colorization:
http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/

These are all RTAS, PT 8 compatible.

As the effect plug-ins by Blue Cat (http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products..._FreewarePack/) and the absolutely great ones by Massey (http://www.masseyplugins.com/index_v...?page=download) have already been mentioned, I would be surprised if there's any more decent, free rtas/mac ones. (Well, surprise me!)

----

For not free, but cheap and quite gratifying downloadable plug-ins, you might try audiomidi.com "No-Brainer" deals:
http://www.audiomidi.com/cust_search..._upgrades.aspx
(at the very moment, XILS 3LE synth, Amplitube Live, and the very useful Overloud Breverb audiomidi edition, for 15 or 20 dollars each)

Or for more massive "great value" packs, watch for eSoundz group buys, every now and then:
http://www.esoundz.com/
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9
On the current "Ultimate Studio Drums II" group buy, note this: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewto...982568#3982568
If you use esoundz.com, you're welcome to refer to my user name (below) while buying - thanks.

I guess these are the best deals you can get at the moment... Generally speaking, whenever you want to buy some plug-ins, I would say wait for Summer or Christmas (or such) special offers or group buys; or at least buy your plug-ins in "bundles"!
For second-hand ones, these might be the best places:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewfo...d4480d0d0cef93
http://duc.digidesign.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12
...not to mention ebay
